‘How to have even more fun in relationships’

Report from workshop at the NLP-South Practice Group

4 December 2008

Mindful of the ‘fun’ element in this year’s NLP-South theme, Nigel and Jenny treated us to a comedy sketch about the differences between the male and female brain. Unfortunately there was a slight technical hitch with the video camera, so you’ll need to look at the original by Mark Gungor, and will miss the admirably decorated pumpkins that represented our heads!

Slightly more seriously, we considered all the things that filter our communication with others and the way we make assumptions about the people we meet. First impressions have a habit of turning into full-blown ‘facts’ about the people we interact with and can be a bit tricky to change.

Then we explored our mental landscape or ‘panorama’ of where we place different people with whom we have relationships. We noticed that some people occupy a fun space - and Nigel talked to us about his ‘possibility space’ where he holds information or ideas that he thinks may challenge his beliefs.

Finally we brought a social panorama to life - with Harold as our guinea-pig - we used other people as proxy for the significant people in his life. Once his panorama became ‘psycho-active’ (ie once he believed in all that it represented to him), a small change in the position of one person evoked a marked difference in his perception of his relationship to her.  We ‘future-paced’ that change and look forward to hearing what difference it has made.

The NLP-South Practice Pack contains full details of the evening, as well as an audio interview with Nigel and Jenny.  Cost £15.00.
