Couples coaching and counseling

Are you arguing a lot ? Drifting apart ? Has communication become difficult ? Perhaps other factors are contributing, such as problems with children, In laws, or work life balance.

Whatever your story these things can wear us down, rob us of our potential.

Seeking help is a strength, though not always easy.

Couple counselling and coaching is helpful when:

  • Couples feel stuck and want to learn ways to strengthen their relationship
  • An outside perspective would be useful to help you deal with the little things that make or break relationships.
  • Communication has become difficult.
  • Conflict is becoming a significant feature in the relationship.
  • Differences between you seem to have become amplified.
  • Other stress factors are involved, eg financial, work life balance etc.
  • Either or both of you are unsure if you can continue in the relationship.

I will support you to:

  • Identify the issues that contribute to your distress and be clear about what you really want.
  • Help you to acknowledge each others views and feelings.
  • Help you to communicate more effectively and break vicious circles.
  • Find extra resources to help you cope
  • Share the thoughts and beliefs that keep you where you are.
  • Find alternative perspectives and make the changes you want to make.
  • Identify the strengths in your relationship.
  • Understand each others needs and find a balance that works for you both

I aim for you to see improvements from day one.

I aim to help you achieve the outcomes you want in 3 to 6 sessions.

Some couples find coming back later for a refresher helpful.

You will find here a combination of Couple counselling and coaching designed to look at the whole picture and improve your relationship.

Combining couple counselling and coaching has proved effective and complimentary: Counselling helps people identify relevant issues, feelings, emotions that inform the way forward and the coaching element helps translate this into action. I do not tell you what to do, but can be pro-active in helping you look at the options, drawing on a wealth of experiences and a wide range of resources. These elements are tailored to suit your particular needs.

Engaging Men in improving relationships.

While we are all individuals and this does not always apply, Men often find it harder than Women to talk about emotions and engage in counselling and coaching. Typically men can tend to withdraw when faced with what they see as emotional demands. This tends to frustrate and upset their partner, leading to a vicious circle. In our experience men often find it easier to relate to a male counsellor or coach. I have extensive experience of working with men and couples. See About Me

Sessions

Generally couples attend together, but it is not unusual to combine this with some individual input. If either or both of you need some one to one input at the beginning or part way through that is an option. It is sometimes helpful to have space to talk alone to clarify your own thoughts. However I am careful not to let this be divisive, the aim being to make meeting together more productive, which would follow.

Why counselling and coaching ?

We know from experience that combining the two skills and approaches is complimentary: Counselling helps people identify relevant issues, feelings, emotions that inform the way forward and the coaching element helps them translate that into action. We do not tell you what to do, but can be more pro-active in helping you look at the options based on a wealth of experiences drawing on a wide range of resources. We find people respond to this approach which can be adapted to suit your particular needs as individuals and a couple.

Engaging Men:

Men often find it harder than their partners to talk about emotions and engage in counselling and coaching. Typically men can tend to withdraw when faced with what they see as emotional demands. This tends to frustrate and upset their partner, leading to a vicious circle. In our experience men often find it easier to relate to a male counsellor or coach. Nick Lamprey has extensive experience of working with men, while developing deep insight into their partners perspective as well.
