When you first get together

We all want to be loved by one special person. It brings meaning to our life, makes us feel good about ourselves and helps us cope with “the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune!” It also makes us more tolerant of others and in a good relationship we are healthier, live longer and laugh more.

So what can you do as you embark on a new relationship to give it the best chance of succeeding?

Take our quiz

If you haven’t yet taken our quick quiz ‘Is your partner your best friend?’ now is a good time to do so. Check out what you already know about each other. Use the questions to open up conversations, which will help you both understand each other’s background, likes and dislikes. Discover some of each other’s hopes and dreams, begin to find goals to share.

Look for those little shared moments:- ‘Our tune’; ‘pet names’ memories of ‘special views’, ‘shared laughter’, ‘holidays together’. Use your imagination to build more of these every day as they create a bond that strengthens you in your life lived together.

Dream your dreams

These early days, when every moment apart seems like a lifetime, are a great opportunity to spend some of your precious time together focusing on your future.
